Part three of six:
By the end of [REDACTED] advances in computer technology had led to the development of more radical robotics programs. A joint effort of the [REDACTED] Institute of Technology School of computer science and the Department of Defense was created to better explore possible combat applications of these new technologies. Despite repeated protests from his colleagues and the resignation of several graduate students Professor [REDACTED] proceeded with this course of study. The enhanced control the new found computing power gave the team allowed them to accelerate development of the MK 1 and MK 1.5 chassis. Utilizing advanced 3D modeling and a custom built rapid prototyping machine Professor [REDACTED] was able begin field testing by early [REDACTED]. The machine exceeded expectations when controlled remotely but the research team encountered great difficulty when attempting to load the [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] programs provided to them by their pentagon counterparts. All but one of the [REDACTED] models immediately went into standby mode upon loading the DOD software while the exception suffered a [REDACTED] malfunction. The use of [REDACTED] during these tests resulted in the death of two technicians and one graduate student. The cause of this malfunction was later determined to be operator error. The program was shut down and all robotics equipment was [REDACTED] on July 22 [REDACTED]. The current whereabouts of the completed units is currently classified.
