As processing speeds increased and miniaturization became increasingly sophisticated scientists at [REDACTED] sought a way in which they could combine the power of several independent units to solve problems across a distributed network of individual processors. This created a [REDACTED] effect which allowed even the most complicated of processes to be completed quickly and with minimal power expenditure. When this research was eventually made available to the team at the [REDACTED] lab to be used in the development of supercomputers for military applications project [REDACTED] was created. This project which focused specifically on autonomous data analysis and top down decision making led to the creation of the [REDACTED] 51 and 53 supercomputers although the reference to the [REDACTED] units as individual computers is something of a misnomer. Control of 51 was lost during the [REDACTED] experiment in 20[REDACTED] while 53 continues to be used as a part of the [REDACTED] artificial intelligence project underway at [REDACTED] state [REDACTED].
